Risk Assessment Documents
Interim reports on the risk assessment of three nanomaterials, "Titanium Dioxide (TiO2)", "Fullerene (C60)" and "Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs)", in addition to a brochure representing the concept of the assessment, "The Principles and Basic Approach to Risk Assessment of Manufactured Nanomaterials (interim version)" were published (in Japanese) on October 16, 2009.
The English translations of the executive summaries of these interim reports and the brochure were released on December 22, 2009.
With regard to risk management, measures easily taken by manufacturers are those for exposure control. With reference to these interim reports, risk reduction can be achieved through careful and wise control of exposures. It is sincerely hoped that these interim reports contribute to the risk management at manufacturing sites.
AIST-RISS has developed and released a number of risk assessment documents on the chemical substances with known or expected risks to human health and/or ecosystem.
These risk assessment documents, which are the outcomes of the horizontal research activities CRM has focused since its establishment, are expected to be the scientific bases for the decision-making in chemical risk management among regulators, industries and public.
AIST-RISS has published a report "Public Perception of Nanotechnologies in Japan from 2005 to 2009 (ver.1.0)" in June 2010, which is based on questionnaire surveys on the Internet conducted for five consecutive years starting in 2005.
