Thank you for your support for 7 years.

Atsushi Inaba, Director
Research Center for Life Cycle Assessment, AIST
It is our great pleasure to announce here the ending of our Research Center.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a useful tool to evaluate the environmental aspects and potential impacts associated with a product and a service throughout its life span, e.g. in "cradle to grave" perspective. The ISO-14040 series has been published as a framework of the internationally standardized LCA method, and many manufacturing companies have adopted this method to evaluate the environmental performance of their industrial products.
In addition, more recently, LCA has been started to be utilized in evaluating social systems such as energy systems and waste treatment systems. There, LCA is looking at not only environmental aspects but more focusing the social aspect including welfares of the community.
The Research Center for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA-Center) has been promoting to develop the environmentally sound societies and the human activities with low environmental impacts, which time period was planed originally for 7 years, to the end of March 2008, when the CLA-Center established in 2001. We will continue our research and start new activities in the new Research Institute of AIST, Research Institute for Safety and Sustainability, from April 2008. We hope that our research results should be useful and helpful for the development of the sustainable society along with much social interests and needs. We look forward to your encouragement and cooperation in the new Research Institute. Thank you for your supporting us !
